Chapter 6
The next morning, Alika wakes up to her alarm clock thinking that she couldn't sleep all night. She wonders if it had been since primary school that she had dwelled over her problems so much. Alika and Masumi both open their bedroom doors and end up face to face. Masumi blushes and is speechless. There is silence. Alika smiles and manages to say good morning. Masumi turns away and says he can't believe how early she's up. Alika gets a little mad and says if she is serious about it, she can wake up with just one alarm clock (does that mean she has more than one? O_o;) Masumi says "Then you aren't serious all the other times?" and then mutters an insult. Alika feels relieved that they are back to normal.
As they walk to school, Alika tells him to slow down but Masumi keeps walking. Then she calls him "Maa kun", a nickname when he was a little kid. Masumi stops in his tracks, then says she is slow. Alika snaps and then tells him to watch his mouth. Masumi is sighs and says how she's still extremely scary when she snaps ^_^; She pinches his cheeks, telling him off and then they pause as they realise how close they are to each other. Alika then tells Masumi that she loves him, but that isn't romantic love, but she will always be his sister and that's all she can say to him and she hopes he doesn't hate her. Masumi tells her "Why would I hate you?". Alika sobs a little and apologises to Masumi in her head.
At school, they see Kazuki. They say hi and Alika is about to apologise for Masumi, but Masumi steps forward and apologises to Kazuki very politely. Alika is surprised and so is Kazuki. He says it's okay and asks if Masumi's injuries are okay. Masumi says they're fine and then walks off. Alika follows hurriedly while thanking Kazuki. Kazuki then calls her back and says that he has to talk to her and that he'll be waiting at the student council room after school.
Alika knows that he wants to talk to her about liking her, but Alika feels that she can't do anything for Kazuki. She always makes him worried and troubles him and that's all she ever does. To her, Kazuki was a star in the midst of darkness and if she followed him, she would always come out in the light.
The bell rings for the end of school and Mitsuko and Alika are about to leave the room. Makoto calls them back and asks if one of them could come with him to do some shopping for his 10 year old girl cousin since he has no idea what girls like. Mitsuko is obviously wanting to go and Alika says that she is busy so Mitsuko should go. She watches as they leave and hope things go well between them.
Alika goes to the student council room and sees Kazuki. Masumi is standing by the door, thinking that it's pathetic to eavesdrop but he is curious. Alika gives Kazuki the photo they took on the camp, the one of Alika and Kazuki together. Kazuki says to her that he told her he likes her and asks how she feels about him. He then asks her out. Alika thinks for a while, then to Masumi's surprise, she apologises. They are silent for a while and Alika waits, her heart pounding nervously. Kazuki asks if she is going out with Masumi or anything and Alika says no, he is just a brother to her and that's no why she rejected Kazuki for asking her out. She makes up the excuse that she's not used to boys and she's still not sure of the concept of dating. Kazuki then says "So then I still have a chance" and he is satisfied with her reply and feels better. Then he walks away and says see you tomorrow. Kazuki walks out of the room and Masumi hides behind the corner.
Masumi walks into the room and sees Alika crying. He asks why on earth she dumped him if she loves him so much that she is crying. He yells at her saying she had better not say it was for his sake and that he didn't confess his feelings to her to make her unhappy. Alika is surprised and doesn't know what to say. Masumi says it doesn't matter and that she should go after Kazuki. He says that he saw Kazuki go to the rooftop of the school.
Alika runs off sobbing and thinks to herself that she really is a coward because she even runs away from her own feelings. She had returned to her old self when she was running away from boys. If Masumi was her brother and Kazuki was just a friend then everything would be simple and she wouldn't have to think about anything, even though she likes Kazuki.
Kazuki is at the top of the school and he is looking at the photo of him and Alika. The photo gets caught by the wind and it lands the other side of the rooftop fence. As Alika gets to the rooftop of the school, she sees Kazuki halfway across the fence, looking like he's going to jump. She pulls him over to her, saying how dangerous it is and he should get down quickly. Kazuki sees that she is crying and he apologises for surprising her like that. He tells her to stop crying. He explains that the photo had been blown to the other side. Alika says it was still dangerous. Kazuki then smiles and says he is happy that she is crying from worrying about him and says he definitely likes Alika still. Alika keeps crying and then she says that she remembered how she first met Kazuki on the rooftop of the primary school and how he saved her. Alika says that she's never forgotten him. Kazuki can't believe it.
He tells Alika about how he had to go to hospital to have surgery when he was younger and it wasn't a life or death situation, but the word "surgery" just freaked him out. Before the operation, he went to the rooftop to pray to the stars a bit and then he found Alika there. He had worried about that girl for ages, since he had told her "You're going to be happy" and he wondered if she'd been doing okay and he used to pray at the rooftop that Alika would be happy. Alika says that before when he asked her out, she was really happy. She tells him that it makes her incredibly happy to be told that somebody she likes, likes her back. She says that she's glad she was alive. They hug and she thinks to herself that she finally said it and if she wasn't alive, she wouldn't have known that to be happy, it meant that she had someone important to her, someone who thinks of her and that she has found the only star in the whole world and she will definitely be happy.
The end has some photos and there is one of Kazuki and Alika that says "with my boyfriend <3" ^_^
